THE VOICE OF THE WATER

Back, further back,

as far as my memory does not reach,

here in this magical land

the water sang,

it had a giant voice

equal to the sound of a thousand winds.

It was the water and its liquid song,

from south to north, from east to west,

and in all directions,

in all the ways of the water,

the water gave its voice

for life to dance

to the sound of its song.

Then the men appeared

that came from beyond the salt,

from other places,

and the water sang.

They seized land from the water

and the water diminished its song.

Now, for now,

the water hardly sings,

lost its great voice,

is getting old,

and one of these days

when man wants

that the water sings again

it won´t be able to do it.
